I know you’ve all been having sleepless nights worrying about my bad back, but be distressed no longer, it is much improved, although not good enough to go on our long walk today. We started off on the marked path and I found the uneven ground a bit jarring so took a short cut back to Basil, with Melek, while Sarah and Mabel pushed on a bit further.
One of the best things about being on a campsite, as opposed to wildcamping, is people watching. Not for the first time this trip we have a man, a rather elderly one on this occasion, who fancies himself as Sweden’s answer to Bob Dylan. Nobody has gathered around him for a singalong, it’s just him and a slight younger man who joins him to sing the choruses, badly. Fortunately it’s Bob Dylan in his pre electric phase. The acoustic guitar is generally a rather soothing instrument so its not particularly intrusive, but if I was on the pitch next to him I think I might not be so charitable, since he started strumming and singing “teenager in love” (not appropriate material for him at all) at about 7pm and he and his backing singer were still at it at 11.30 pm when we went to bed!
To our excitement we have found that the rather rapid wifi on this site will allow Sarah to download from Netflix. We find Netflix’s rules incomprehensible. In some countries we seem to be able to access our account and download programmes and in others, Finland and Norway being the last two examples, not. It means we are able to reacquaint ourselves with Orange is the New Black, which we last watched in Estonia.
Our campsite has a huge billboard at the entrance filled with what seem to be album covers of Swedish pop singers. I do not recognise any of the performers but I asked about it at reception. Apparently the owner of this site is manager for all these singers, most of whom have represented Sweden at Eurovision. I bet he regrets the fact that Abba are not one of the acts on his poster!
The weather has been reasonable today. Warm with a mixture of sunshine and heavy clouds. We’ve only had a few spots of rain so I have sat outside all day planning the next couple of weeks. I have found plenty to do in Denmark, but this part of Sweden does not seem to have much to offer. I’ve put enquiries on Tripadvisor, but nothing really takes our fancy. We both like the idea of visiting Ystad, the home of Wallander, in Southern Sweden, so we will head in that direction tomorrow. After that I think Copenhagen beckons.
