So, after a fairly hectic few weeks at home Basil is on the road once again.
The idea is to travel through France and spend a few weeks in Spain before returning home at the end of October. As usual we only have a vague idea of an itinerary, which consists of heading through France to the Atlantic coast just north of Biarritz, then travelling on to the Spanish northern Atlantic coast and take it from there. We have never travelled in northern Spain before. If the weather is good we may linger in the north for some time but if not we will probably head south for warmer climes.
Today we travelled down to Folkestone and are staying overnight on the Caravan and Motorhome Club Black Horse site (51.133084, 1.156958). We would not normally waste money on an overnight stop at a CMC site when we saw earlier this year how good the Canterbury Aire was for £3 a night, but for some reason, unknown to us and to the CMC wardens, we have been given a voucher by the CMC for a free overnight stay, so it would be rude to say no!
Tomorrow the real adventure begins when we board the Shuttle at about 11.30am and set our SatNav for Chartres, whose Cathedral seems to be worth a stop. I anticipate it will take us two days to reach Chartres if we avoid the toll roads, which is the current idea.
