A Life in the Slow Lane

The Longest Ever

Team Basil has been scratching its collective heads to think of a campsite on which we have ever stayed longer and we think Camping Playa Taray may hold the record. We are currently planning to leave on Monday and that would mean 6 nights on one campsite!

It’s not as if Camping Playa Taray is anything special but we like its laid back, slightly scruffy atmosphere, its fabulous beach and that there is a village close enough for us to walk to which has a restaurant or two. The other factor not helping us move on is the beautiful weather – clear blue skies and temperatures around 20ºC.

We have managed to fill the time. I have finally finished the photobook for Sarah’s forthcoming birthday (huge sigh of relief).

Today our next door neighbour, who is a retired Army officer, started to clean his motorhome. I’m not normally one for keeping up with the Jones’, but today I must have had a funny turn because before I knew it I had a bucket of water and was washing Basil’s dirty bottom. I have to say that both Basil and I feel better for the effort.

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and Sarah, ever the romantic, skipped down the beach with Mabel and Melek and built a heart out of shells. Later in the day we both went to the beach in order to walk to the next village for a Valentine’s lunch. We hunted high and low for Sarah’s artwork and finally found it much higher up the beach than she remembered, because, now being on the Atlantic, there is a proper tide every day.

Our Menu del Dia was an exorbitant €10 each for olives, bread, a small pot of paté, three courses and a large glass of wine! I don’t know how the restauranteurs make a living.
