A Life in the Slow Lane

Still chasing the sun in Krk

We had a tremendous thunderstorm last night. The noise was so bad that Mable the springer spaniel tried to get into bed with us and needed comforting.

The thunder had stopped by the morning but it was still pouring down, which was not what we had ordered when we set course for the Adriatic. We waited for the rain to ease off and then headed for Krk. We slipped and slid along the muddy and rocky coastal path for a mile or so into Krk.

Krk is a small scale holiday resort with, at its centre, a small old town complete with harbour. The original part of the town is a pretty walled settlement, built out of the local golden stone. The persistent rain however, did not do it justice. Having got fairly soaked we took shelter in a restaurant for a lunch of anchovy salad.

By the time we had finished our food the rain had eased and there was even some small rays of sun. I managed one or two photos and then we headed back to Camping Krk. By the time we had reached Basil the sun was fully out and the rest of the day was spent relaxing on our pitch by the sea.

We have decided that if the morning still sees rain we are going to make a run for it across Italy to the Mediterranean, which seems to have just about the only sun in Europe. This is turning into a long distance chase for the sun.
